Auctioneers: Rob Mandanici & Terry Finlayson

Dear Collector

Welcome to the eagerly awaited West Australian Auction featuring material not previously offered on the open market plus many lots that have not been seen for a generation.

We were fortunate to secure the collections of not one but two well know and established West Australian families. Both wishing to remain anonymous but heavily involved in the early establishment of the Swan River Colony and its development. This has resulted in material not previously recorded with many opportunities for future research and possible "finds" in the bulk lots.

Material from the likes of Brian Pope, Bruce Haynes, Robin Comley, Paul Kay, Trevor Lacy, Chris Sykes and Trevor Hiscock also grace this auction providing a wonderful cross section of material. Once again, we have spent a lot of time breaking the material down into relevant and manageable lots allowing you to bid on the material you collect rather than large bulky mixed lots. This also allows those on all budgets and those with specific "wants" lists to obtain exactly the lots that contain what they collect.

The collections provide many exciting opportunities to "fossick" for those gems that may have been missed while the detailed, and often written up collections, give you the chance to benefit from those who have done the research in the past and as you can see from the above names, "experts" in their fields!

The stamp section begins with a lovely 1860 4d Perkins Bacon Die Proof in black with RPSV Cert. (Lot 120) before progressing through the different years and subsequent printings. We have isolated the Officials and Revenues with subsections for Medical handstamps, Telegraphs and the iconic Coolgardie Cycle Express issues. (lots 501-508)

The increasingly popular field of WA Revenues is the strongest we have ever presented and includes many different issues including the early "long swans" before a range of Hospitals Benefit Fund through to Pig Duty and the later Tombstones. This naturally leads into a stunning array of Official Mail and early Postal History plus a fine selection of Postal Stationery, an area often overlooked but increasingly in demand.

Another vendor has provided us the opportunity to auction some rarely seen original postmarkers including the Postmasters Crown types. A beautiful addition to any collectors' "den" and full of character in their own right! These precede an amazing range of Postmarks with the majority rated "rare" by Goulder and a quality that is well above average for their scarcity and still affordable when measured against the stamp market where there are often far more examples!

We have endeavoured to scan all lots and upload them to our website in time for the auction however we are happy to provide additional scans by request.

We have also begun describing for our 15th & 16th July auction. It will feature 2500 lots over 2 days including numerous collections and some early Commonwealth sets plus useful ranges of Australian kangaroos and KGV issues. Material can still be assigned for this auction by contacting either John McPhee or myself.

It is not possible to go into greater detail here as to the many highlights that lie ahead of you, suffice to say, that whatever your area of interest in WA, I trust it has been catered for herewith!

Please also make a note of the next Perth Stamp & Coin Show which will be held from Friday 24th to Sunday 26th March at the South Perth Community Centre. It is fully booked with the return of the overseas dealers and the "Collectors" area.

Thank you to the vendors who have provided such a wonderful array of material along with guidance when required! Thanks as always to my wife Christine and the whole "Ace Team", especially Trevor Lacy and John McPhee who have both assisted with the describing of this sale.

Wishing you all an enjoyable auction and happy bidding!

Ian Boulton
