Aegean Islands (Rhodes) – German Occupation 1945 (25th Jan) Feldpost swastika cds cancelling 5c Rhodes ovptd "WEINACHTEN 1944" (Xmas) with Michel variety III. Ovpt locally applied at direction of German Commandant to boost morale of his Wehmacht forces thus the stamps ovptd were provided free to his troops for Christmas mail home. Letter flown on Luftwaffe flight in Feb 1945. Claus Petry Cert. (2011). A scarce cover in very good cond. Michel cat. €3000 on cover
