1996 (April) 1p Machin right selvedge blocks of 4 overprinted "REPUBLIC OF SOMALILAND 500 SHILLIN", one block with a star obliterating the value. These emergency overprints were not received well in the country as it tried to gain its independence from Somalia & not wanting to be associated to its time as a British Protectorate. This was the only time Machins were ovptd by a country other than the UK. MUH. Scarce as the majority were destroyed. (2 blocks)
