1939 (1st May) Flying boat "Challenger" crashed at Lourenco Marques, Mozambique. Two salvaged mail items originating Philadelphia 4/4/39 & Calcutta 22/4/39, the latter with boxed bilingual cachet applied in South Africa "Flying Boat Correspondence Damaged by Seawater...", the former accompanied by S. African stamp dealer's auction card noting that cover was endorsed in manuscript "wrecked plane" by a PO official. (2 items)
