1938 (5th Nov) "Marseille - Republique" France registered cover to Melbourne with 31f75 consisting of the UPU 2f75 plus airmail surcharge of 7f per 5gms x 4 & 2f registration. Carried on Imperial Airways "Canopus", flight SE 44, during which it was delayed at Rangoon on 10th Nov after colliding with an oil barge. The service was delayed a day due to repairs to one of its floats. Darwin 15 NO 38 & Melbourne Regd 18 NO 38 b/s's. Worn cond but scarce as "Air Crash Mail of Imperial Airways & Predecessor Airlines" by Sanford states "No covers are known in collectors' hands". Ex Perry.
