Canada 1919 (14th June) St John's, Newfoundland to Ireland by Capt. John Alcock & Lt Arthur Whitten Brown in a Vickers Vimy. "The Cochrane" hotel cover with "Trans-Atlantic Air Post 1919 One Dollar" ovpt on 15¢ tied by St Johns JUN 13 1919" machine cancel. Alcock & Brown gained fame for completing the 1960 miles flight, crash landing at Derrygimlagh Bog near Clifden in County Galway but receiving the £10,000 prize. Some soiling but a scarce cover & a rare example of this historic flight not to mention an early crash cover! Ex Frommer. (plate 4)
