New Zealand 1958 (27th Aug) 6d 30th Anniv of Kingsford Smith's First Tasman Flight hand painted preliminary artwork in watercolour showing Kingsford Smith & the "Southern Cross" in flight drawn by JE Lyle. Not overly dis-similar to the final design being in the same shades of blue. Still mounted to original design "Fashion Plate" board & lettered "C" being the third drawing by Lyle. Framed by simulated perforations measuring 23cms x 15cms. Most attractive & a wonderful introduction piece to an Australian Airmail exhibit. Ex JE Lyle (Auckland) & depicted in PSNZ Vol. IV on page 258. (included copies with the lot) (plate 6)
