1912 (12th June) Commem airmail postcard used at Darmstadt during experimental air mail flights between Rhein & Main bearing 10pf for foreign postcard rate & mandatory 10pf etiquette for airmail surcharge with both tied by the special cancellation. Addressed to Govt Geologist, Launceston, Tasmania. The pioneer Zeppelin airship Schwaben & Gelber Hunds aircraft serviced the flights raising the possibility that this is the earliest Zeppelin flown item forwarded to Australia aside from being the only recorded example of this postcard type to Australia. Remarkably the subject matter on reverse is wholly commercial referring in part to the German Bank concessions in "Nyassa Land".VG cond. Ex Perry (Back Cover)
