Pre-decimals This collection really belongs under "Thematic Birds" but its content has more value for the pre-decimal collector! "Kookaburras" is the specialist theme arranged on Hagners & exhib pages from the late John Kirk. Starts with National Stamp Week 1978 covers & M/S together with Heidelberg Press 3d kookaburra block of 4 with Stamp Show 78 cds followed by 1914 6d recess print, 1928 3d corner block MUH, 1932 MLH & used with Hagner containing 56 cds examples while another with 50 with mixed cds & machine cancels noting used pair with "break in top frame" on one plus a pair used with "VG" perfin, 1914 plate 4 MUH & well centred pair, missing perf on one (JK paid $225 for this item), 1928 Exhib covers x 2, 1 with red cachet tying slightly stained pair from base of sheet, the other a Fred Hagen souvenir cover dated 29 OC 28 with red cds (some foxing on perfs) plus a combination cover with 1½d Canberra & 3d kookaburra tied by 20 OC 28 cds in red on "FORWARDED BY AIR MAIL" cachet with central Melbourne 15 cds & flown to Mildura. Also superb Kellerberrin 7 NO 28 cds's tying pair to Guildford addressed small env - double the required postage! Incls 1932 Ash imprint block MUH (Cat. $225) before Ash imprint plate 1 & plate 2 pairs, top selvedge pl. 1 single & 2 shades used. Also Govt perfins incl a double "WA" perfined pair & pmkd examples written up on pages. A 1935 cover tied by 6d Late Fee cds together with 1d KGV & 3d SJ on Airmail cover to Straits Settlements, a 1938 Dutch Airmail envelope addressed to Soerabaja franked with 6d kookaburra & 3d KGVI with Sydney Air Mail Section machine cancel before 1937 6d perf. 13½x14 Ash imprint blocks (3) with shades, perf. 15x14 McCracken & Authority (3) imprint blocks showing shades & 1937 (2nd Aug) FDC with 3d KGVI, 6d kookaburra & 1/- lyrebird & another regd to South Africa. Finally left & right pane blocks (no imprint) with later pages written up with 9 more covers noting 4 McCracken imprint blocks, BCOF on 6d block of 12, perfd "VG" block of 4, shades in MUH/MLH & used singles noting white paper no wmk block & gutter block of 12 with a few minor varieties & private perfins (on 1932 type).
