Private Perfins A comprehensive collection on 24 album pages with over 130 examples in several configurations incl horizontal, reversed, inverted, inverted & reversed, vertical reading up & down & sometimes reversed. There is also the odd multiple perfin on a single stamp. The Handbook of Australian Private Perfins edited by John Mathews (2002) was used for catalogue codes & rarity ratings. As a general guideline "rare" refers to patterns of which no more than 5 are known, "scarce" from 6 to 20, "uncommon" from 21 to 50, "common" from 51 to 200 & above that, "very common". All items are very good used to F/U. Incls "B & A" - 1, "VD & Co" - 1(u) with 5 examples incl vertical reading down & horizontal inverted & reversed. "DJF" - 1 x 7 incl horiz pair (VC), "D&J F" - 2(u) incl example on 2d yellow swan plus a fine promissory note payable at the Commercial Bank at Boulder before "F&G" - 1(c) with 8 x horiz examples on vals to 2/6d & 4 vert examples reading up (much scarcer), "GD&CO" - 1(vc) noting 20 horiz examples & a vert reading down with range of vals to 1/-, "GDCOP" - 1 with 13 horiz on vals to 1/- & a vert inverted on 1d Internal Revenue fiscally used, "GWF" - 1(c) with 12 vals to 6d some reversed or inverted & 1x inverted & reversed. "GWS&CO" - 2 with 7 examples incl a 1d red swan with quadruple perfins & a double vert example reading down plus a promissory note payable at the Commercial Bank Boulder City. "HS&CO" - 1(vc) with 11 examples on vals to 1/- incl 1x vert example reading down on 1/- green swan W Cr A wmk, "HSCO" - 1(vc) on 2d yellow, "HSCO" - 2(R) horiz & inverted on 1d red swan (extremely scarce), "HW&CO" - 1(u) with 3 examples incl vert perfin reading down on 2d yellow swans, "MK" - 1(c) on 8 swans with vals to 9d incl some inverted or reversed, "PWA" - 1(s) on 4d chestnut vertically reading up (scarce), "RICOLD" - 1(vc) with 6 examples incl block of 4 & 2 vert, 1 reading down, inverted & another reading down reversed. Finally "WS&CO " - 1(vc) with 10 examples on vals to 6d with 5 reading horizontally & 5 vertically with a range of variations plus 2d yellow swan with vertical perfin reading down tied by Perth MC 24 MAR 1909 cancel & "VOCO" - 7(c) with 14 examples incl 9 with horiz & 5 vert with vals to 6d violet some also reversed, horizontal or horizontal reversed. A close viewing will show that much time & effort would be required to replicate such a collection!
