1878 (1st Aug) Official mail from a Lemich Postmaster General & General Superintendent of Telegraphs, Perth to C.L. Adams, Stamp Importer Cincinnati Ohio America with contents intact. Oval "General Post Office, Perth, Western Australia" postal marking PO1 in black lower left corner (used as a departmental handstamp?). PMI & PMC list period of use 1854 to 1858. This item surpasses recorded used by 20 years. Crown paid & Perth cds 1-c top right. The letter on "Western Australia. Postal & Telegraph Department, General Post Office, Perth" letterhead was written as a response to an American stamp dealer & is signed "A. Helmich Postmaster General & Genl Supt. Telegraphs". The letter is in very good cond while the envelope has been opened out & is quite discoloured & worn at the edges.
