1889 (25th Aug) 12 barred numeral "5" proving cover front for Carnarvon with 2 superb strikes with an equally superb neighbouring Carnarvon 2b cds which is the earliest recorded date in PMI. The 9d rate to Germany made up with 6d violet (rounded corner) & 3d DLR swan. This is one of only 4 recorded proving covers in Pope & Reynolds & is the featured cover in the listing. Ex Sykes
