1953 (2nd May) Crash of BOAC Comet. First jet plane to crash that was carrying mail. 43 passengers & crew died. Malaya-Singapore KGVI pmkd Singapore 1 MAY 53 8.30PM & addressed to London on Municipal Commissioners Singapore env. "SALVAGED MAIL "Comet" Crash, Near Calcutta. 2nd MAY 1953" cachet in purple. Includes the spelling error in which Calcutta was spelt with a "G" reading "Galcutta". Both sides of cover show signs of damage by fire & water.
