1937 (4th Dec) Imperial Airways "Cygnus" crash. Cover salvaged from the wreck of the S.23 flying boat which crashed due to incorrect flap settings, killing two, while taking off from Brindisi. Plain cover addressed to "Austral Cabinet Co Kingsbury House, 15 King Street, London, England" with violet boxed "DAMAGED BY SEA-WATER" type D as applied to all mail to England plus the scarce "Timbre poste perdue en transit/Postage stamps lost in transit" cachet applied where original cds & stamps were at top right. The flaps sealed on reverse with "G.R. Found open or damaged and officially secured" brown tape tied by London 4.45PM 17 DEC 1937 slogan cancel. Superb example of this crash.
