1942 (March but date damaged in cds) Qantas cover with typewritten "Per 1st Air Mail - Via Darwin-Broome-Surabaya" at base & addressed to Hudson Fysh, Batavia, Java. 9d platypus tied by Relief No.3(?) South Aust. "Not Transmissible" violet cachet & with red hand finger "Return To Sender" (Darwin). Dead Letter Office MR 20 42 Adelaide cds in red overlapping boxed "Opened by Censor 2" at right. Exceptional example of the effect of WWII on the postal service in northern Australia.
