1916 (22nd Feb) "The View of......." with the remaining b&w postcard caption erased by the censor but showing Sandakan in North Borneo. Addressed to Cardiff, Wales with Aust 1d red KGV tied by Albany cds & the scarce "PASSED SHIP'S CENSOR" double ring circular h/s in violet. Redirected on arrival (31 MR16). A little soiled but historical in that the "H.M.A.S. Encounter" spent the early part of WWI patrolling the near Pacific & Malayan areas before, on 11.2.1916, she was despatched from Sandakan to work in Australian waters & was at Albany from 21.2.1916 to 9.3.1916. The message states "...We are on patrol duty in these seas and find it rather more interesting than our previous show". Incls b&w photo of the ship.
