Lot Details
2½d indigo, Die II in horiz pair with "missing "1" in fraction" variety in left stamp. MLH with aged gum tan line but frontally fresh. Incls a comprehensive 2 page letter by Michael Drury accompanying his certificate (2026) explaining the progressive state of this variety with a similar example currently appearing on the front cover of the current ACSC Kangaroo catalogue. That example was lot 30568 in the "Dubois" Corinphila Auction Sale 111 (2023) which sold for $65,000. Both are of the "late state" recognised by the fact it "breaks into two parts the horizontal fraction bar in addition to a small encroachment of the right side of the "2" to the left of the fraction". This example was originally in the Herbert Fortascue McNess collection sold by Harmers, Sydney in the late 1970's however was returned from the sale because of conflicting certs & differing opinions, all of which are included with the lot plus some of the original black & white photos showing the gentleman himself & other major highlights from his collection. This new discovery will become an important part of future research and the listing of the different states. A wonderful lot with all accompanying documentation & the signed letter by Michael Drury. ACSC 11C(2)j (late state)
