New Caledonia 1940 (21st July) Pan American 1st Flight to San Francisco with pictorial cachets in green & in black, the green partially covered by 9f blue Air with additional 2f franking. Flap with "Passed By Censor 1" in violet at San Francisco prior to forwarding to Chicago addressee. This cover from Noumea came via New Zealand (hence Grand Hotel Auckland envelope) & was charged additional 10d postage paid by framed "New Zealand Postage" 2d (2) & 6d cachets in red, showing "1575" PO code at base. Envelope contains illustrated Grand Hotel Rotorua note dated 9/13/1939 by sender.
