1930/31 BANZ Antarctic Research Expedition cover franked with 1½d Canberra tied by superb "1930-31" pictorial cachet with penguin & addressed to "S.A.C. Campbell, Pilot/Postmaster, BANZ Expedition, On Board "Discovery" ANTARCTIC" . Similar cachet on the reverse in violet with "S.A.C. Campbell, University Club, Phillip Street, Sydney NSW" return address. The British Australian (and) New Zealand Antarctic Research Expedition (BANZARE) was a research expedition into Antarctica between 1929 & 1931 involving two voyages over consecutive Austral summers. It was a British Commonwealth initiative driven more by geopolitics than science. Very good cond & incls his background as an RAAF pilot & his appointment to the expedition.
